Frank Mahnke’s work on color and human response is the backbone, and we use it to choose colors that match the feeling you want, not just the look.

The brain reads space before the conscious mind catches up. Ceiling height, threshold moments, curved versus angular walls, how open or enclosed a room feels. These aren't design buzzwords, they're the structural reasons certain rooms feel right. Every concept names the principles it's using.

Curated to the concept

Color and space set the plan, and the pieces you actually live with are how that plan becomes real. So the products in your room are not picked because they photograph well, they are found because they fit, the palette they have to carry, the nature connection you bring in through real plants and materials, the feeling the room is reaching for, all of it sitting inside how the space itself is built. A chair does not go in to fill a corner, it goes in because it moves the room toward what the color and the structure are already doing. This is where the thinking stops being theory and turns into a lamp, a rug, a table you can actually buy.

The sourcing standard

What "ethically sourced" means here.

Sourcing is a paid feature of this service, not a background habit, and it runs on rules. Vintage first: one-of-one pieces with a documented past get priority, because reuse is the most sustainable choice in the room and nothing from a big-box warehouse has a story. Original designs only: no knockoffs, ever, and never a reproduction of a living designer's protected work. Credited makers favored: when a piece is newly made, it comes from a named maker, not an anonymous listing. Vendors are excluded until proven ethical: unvetted dropshippers never appear in a client specification, full stop.

Two practical notes that come with the standard. One-of-one vintage can sell to someone else at any moment, so those pieces are purchased at specification, when you say yes, not weeks later. And every sourced item arrives as a clickable link with the vendor named, so you always know exactly where your money is going.

After booking, the intake form covers your goals, your constraints, what each room has to keep doing, and the feeling you want. Dimensions help, and a straight-on photo of the room is what makes your rendering possible, so grab one in daylight.

Room Design and Multiple Rooms clients get three color and mood directions built from the intake. You pick the one that feels like you. Mini clients go straight to their custom palette.

Preview before you commit

Every package includes a rendering of your actual room. Color Story clients see it repainted in their story. Room Design and Multiple Rooms clients see it composed to scale with real, available pieces built to their budget. Either way, you see it before a single dollar goes to paint or furniture.

Revisions get folded in, then your branded PDF arrives. Color Story clients get the palette, paint codes, and plan. Room Design clients also get the anchor list, every piece in the visualization linked, priced, and ethically screened. Multiple Rooms clients finish theirs in real time: a two-hour session where we build the final board together across your rooms and claim the vintage on the spot.

A clear note on scope

What's not included.

Ashthetics packages provide design direction and specification only. I don't perform construction, installation, or contractor coordination, and I don't carry the licenses or insurance to do that work safely. That's a feature, not a limitation. It keeps the package focused, affordable, and fast.

You hire your own painter, handyperson, or contractor. They follow the document. If you'd like recommendations on how to vet a good one, I'm happy to share what I look for.

The exception is styling support. If you'd like me to come in once the work is done to physically style shelves, place plants, hang art, and edit the space for the final reveal, that's available as a half-day or full-day add-on. Pricing on request.

You choose your direction before it gets developed, that is the whole point of showing three. And every package includes revisions on top of that. In practice, clients refine details, not the direction they picked themselves.

Two hours, on screen, together. Your rooms come up on the board, and we work through them in real time: swapping the desk chair between candidates until one wins, checking that the vintage credenza is still available while you watch, claiming it the moment you say yes. You leave the session with the home decided, not with homework. One cleanup revision round afterward catches anything that needs a second look in daylight.

For Multiple Rooms, Sourced, yes. Half at booking, half before final delivery. Just ask.

Not at this time. Ashthetics is a design direction studio, not a general contracting business. The package is built so a good local painter or handyperson can execute it without me.
